30 Hudson Yards

30 Hudson Yards — a 90-story, 1,296-foot tall steel-framed skyscraper — is the anchor of the new Hudson Yards mixed-use development in New York. When completed, it will be the second-tallest office building in New York and home to the city’s highest open-air observation deck, which cantilevers out from the building 1,100-feet above grade.

Structural Engineers Thornton Tomasetti contacted CAST CONNEX during the late stages of the design process to discuss some challenging steel connections in the tower. CAST CONNEX subsequently spent the next year developing and proving out a method of steel production and quality control that enabled the production of steel sections up to 4-feet by 4-feet in cross section and exhibiting a minimum of 50 ksi yield strength through their full cross section and in all three directions – CAST CONNEX® High Integrity Block® technology. The connections featuring our High Integrity Blocks are critical outrigger connections and are among the heaviest stressed, multi-axis joints in the high-rise.
