W&W|AFCO Steel engaged CAST CONNEX to engineer and supply cast steel nodes for use in the construction of the Sphere at the Venetian in Las Vegas.

We provided a variety of cast steel nodes and connectors for use in the construction of the Sphere. The venue's exosphere, the world's largest spherical structure rising 366-feet from its base and measuring approximately 520-feet at its equator, incorporated 368 nodes ranging in weight from 1.6 to 7.2-tons each.

Over 9,000 standardized Diablo Bolted Splice (DBS) connections support bolted field splicing of the tubular steel backup structure to the world's largest and most high-definition exterior LED screen. With 580,000 sq. ft. of fully programmable LED exterior, it's primed to be the next iconic landmark in the Las Vegas skyline.

This remarkable venue, boasting a seating capacity of 18,600, distinguishes itself with its ability to envelop audiences in a sensory realm of unprecedented dimensions. Notable features include a breathtaking 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen, cutting-edge speakers employing beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies, and a repertoire of 4D physical effects. CAST CONNEX was engaged to engineer and supply cast steel nodes for use in the construction of the venue’s 520‐foot diameter exosphere structure – the largest spherical structure in the World.

The exosphere functions as the structural backup for the largest LED screen on Earth, providing MSG with a 580,000‐square foot canvas upon which to captivate Las Vegans and the more than 40 million visitors the city welcomes every year.

The exosphere structure is comprised of round hollow structural sections (24‐inch to 12.75‐ inch OD sections) spanning between 368 cast steel nodes in 21 designs ranging in weight from 3,150‐ to 14,350‐ pounds each, totaling over 1,300‐Tons of cast steel nodes. The secondary trellis that frames atop the exosphere primary structure additionally features over 9,000 CAST CONNEX Diablo Bolted Splices.
